Hey guys,

Great thread this one.

I tried PPV once and didn't have much success with it.

I was targeting the IM niche, so maybe PPV traffic doesn't convert that well in the IM niche?

Stumblerum, I believe it's just a pop-up.

Cheers,
Tristan

Where does the ad actually show up? On a website?

Or is it in software that the user accidentally downloaded after being tricked?

The ad shows up as a pop-up window.

and I don't think 'tricked' is the right word. Adwords is downloaded to a person's computer mostly when they get some kind of free game or screen saver and with that, they have the check box ticket that they are downloaded adwords with it. Its like they are getting something for free in return of letting the ad networks show them different advertisements if you know what I mean.

So yea, tricked won't be the word because one is essentially optin in to see those ads.

I'm not the ppv guy but I have had a few ppv campaigns so thought I'd jump in and see if I can answer the question.

Hope it helps.

Easier to understand, hard to explain.

You wanna see exactly how it works?

Read the original PPV post, then try it for yourself.

1) Get ready to uninstall that stuff after
http://www.411-spyware.com/remove-vomba

(or do a google on uninstall vomba)

2) Go to http://www.vomba.com/
then download and install a screensaver

3) Try surfing around for various topics like games, dating, acai berry,
anything hot in PPV advertising.

You should see popups/popunder advertising windows appear on your desktop.

Those could be your ads if you signed up for an account with MediaTraffic.

I tried Mediatraffic.com to promote a registry cleaner review website but didn't have much success.

After about a week my campaign stopped running. I asked what was going on and they said they didnt allow registry cleaner websites.  Huh

Anyway I requested a refund but had to keep reminding them to send it.

Maybe others can chime in here, but my opinion is PPV is definitely not for newbies.

You must be able to make money from any affiliate program first.  For example:
a) Find an offer
b) Target an appropriate audience
c) Test various traffic sources
d) Track what works, eliminate what does not.
e) Constantly improve various parts of the sales process. (split-test)

The landing page, the targeting, the source of traffic, the offer, sales page(s), upsells:
all of these and more, can be measured and improved.

A friend who's had some success in PPV says 80-90% of his campaigns lose money.
He's done probably dozens of campaigns, and had multi-thousand dollars days.

That being the case, I think it would be wise to work cautiously.

Start with regular affiliate marketing, with an offer that has proven to sell well, and try to drive traffic to it.

PPV and PPC are really competitive, thus not easy to succeed in right away.
You're going to have to spend time and money getting experience to make it work.
Best minimize that expense by learning as much as you can beforehand.

Hope that makes sense.  PPVers, please add your thoughts.

Guess I will have to look further into this to see if it is a strategy I should use.

Mass PPV Traffic Video (free)- [moderated -> URL deleted]
All you have to do is opt in to get it. It also comes with a bonus - [moderated -> URL deleted]
Don't think the bonus is free though...

This is a training course from late 2009, perhaps a little out of date now.

The course is valid, typically overpriced marketing material, CPV/PPV advertising was a big secret bargain a few years ago, the rates have since gone up.
