Yup, Traffic is part of that age old money formula:
traffic + content + conversion = $$$
I am looking forward to posting some of my own tips here as well!

Here's what I think it is:
Targeted Traffic + Conversions from a compelling offer = Sales + Sales Funnel + follow ups = Continuous Sales

Thank you everyone for posting, and please continue. With the amount of expertise and willingness to share that we've got here, this forum will truly rock.
That being said. The last three posts, are essentially off-topic.
Please don't get me wrong. They are all true, and important to know in the big picture, but the topic here is
GENERATING TRAFFIC
.

Most preferable is this:
Read all the posts and try something.
Come back and post your PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. That means, do not just copy what you've read somewhere else. Talk about what you've DONE.
Even if it bombed, you will be providing valuable 'recon' and would be helping someone else avoid the same mistakes. If you find something that works, share it.
The power of collective effort and ideas (masterminding) is powerful and very fulfilling!

Ok, I'm going to share something I've done and what I've learned from it.
I've been extremely fortunate to have some money to invest.
I paid a 'guru' to set up the initial pieces of a business for me including:
He set up a squeeze page, free giveaway, product for sale, and then emailed a portion of his huge list and also introduced me to people with similar sized lists to do JVs.
Within a few months the list grew to over 2000.
Downside? The cost. It wasn't cheap at all.
Knowing what I know now, I can accomplish the same for a lot less money.
Nowimhere talked about "
Directory of Ezines
". Really good stuff.
If you can get others to email their lists for you ... that's really hard to beat.
Instantly you can access a large, yet
targeted
and
responsive
audience.

I think thats the key here, wouldn't you agree?
I mean a technically challanged person can, with some time overcome creating a squeeze page, a report and a backen offer but a list and getting additional eyeballs is the tricky part isn't it.
But since you are mod of the Traffic section anyway, I hope there'll be plenty of info in this side of the forum for people to overcome the stumbling blocks of getting people to see there offer and essentially building a list.

One thing that I think is very important is to make sure you have more than one source of traffic.
Never rely on just one or two sources of traffic.

I have to agree Profit Devil. If you get backlinks only from article directories for exemple and your account gets banned you will lose a lot of traffic.

Since I am on a budget, my main source of traffic comes from free methods.
I tried to dabble in Adwords once but got too scared and removed my money immediately.
My main traffic sources right now are ezine articles and articlebase. I submit to them and generate several hundreds views a month to my sites.
My second source of traffic is SEO. I'm currently stuck on page 3 and 4 for most of my keywords though so I'm not expecting much just yet.

Thanks Jazzbassman, but can you share some details? You don't have to give away any "secrets", but just a little more info so we know what you're talking about.
I can guess, but I'm not sure at all, and I think others would like to know, so if I may ask:
a) What do you drive traffic to?
A blog
A review site
A squeeze page
Other (Please specify)
b)Which search engines?
Google
Bing
Yahoo
Other (please specify)

These are no secrets...I'm new at this. I have a blog that is now getting 80% of Search Engine Traffic from Google, 12% from Yahoo.
The other 8% from about as many others. This a content driven blog that is now getting about 300 plus visitors a day, and some days now over 400. It would be doing more had I not stopped blogging for about 3 months, but I've resumed now. I just put Adsense on it yesterday.
Besides blog posts, I drive traffic to it with EZA, YouTube & Podcasts. It's not monetized, other than I sell a few audios and a book occasionally. I sold more when I used email and a 5 page site, but most of my list is on a separate autoresponder that I don't mail to and I haven't added enough AR messages to this one.
I have another site that I haven't touched in almost a year and it gets about 60 people a day. It's an SBI site. Had I continued working it, I'm sure it would have lots of traffic by now. (These are not IM or Make Money sites).
Hope that helps.
